Ontario Airport Passengers Up 75% Since 2016
Ontario International Airport recorded its second consecutive year with over 7 million travelers, ranking second in national satisfaction.

Ontario International Airport handled more than 7 million passengers this year, marking the second consecutive year the facility exceeded that volume. This milestone represents a 75% increase in annual passenger traffic since local ownership resumed in 2016. Prior to this recent surge, the airport had not recorded such high annual numbers since 2007.
The growth has coincided with a strong showing in national rankings. J.D. Power’s 2026 North America Airport Satisfaction Study placed ONT in the second position among medium-sized airports. This marks the second year in a row that the facility has secured that specific ranking.
Since the 2016 transfer of ownership back to local control, the airport has expanded amenities for waiting travelers. New features include a satellite site of the California Science Center, a short story dispenser, and a group of therapy dogs known as the Paw Squad.
Local officials and airport management attribute the steady rise in traffic to these added attractions and improved operations. The facility has become a primary transportation hub for the Inland Empire while also drawing praise from travelers across the country.
The airport’s recent performance contrasts with its historical traffic patterns. The 7 million passenger mark had not been reached for nearly two decades before the post-2016 growth began. The current volume indicates a sustained shift in how residents and visitors utilize the Ontario facility.
Travelers can access updated information through the airport’s digital guide. This resource includes terminal maps, security tips, and dining options. The guide also lists parking, shuttle services, and nearby hotels to assist with trip planning.
