Hilary Rosen is the new chair of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. She takes over from Sara Putt, who is ending her three-year term. This leadership change shifts the academy's top decision-making authority to Rosen, who will now direct its work in film, games, and television.
Rosen has been a member of the BAFTA Television Committee since 2021. She later served as its chair, where she helped shape the TV and Craft Awards. Her appointment follows a process that also identified new leaders for specific industry sectors. Charu Desodt and Caroline Levy are the new chairs for the Games and Television Committees, respectively. Nahrein Kemp will lead the LIT Committee.
Two individuals will serve as deputy chairs to support Rosen in this role. Ade Rawcliffe and Andrew Miller have been appointed to these positions. Both will serve two-year terms, providing continuity in the academy's upper management structure while the board transitions.
Shrina Shah, who currently chairs the governance and appointments committee, has been added to the Board of Trustees. This move expands the board's composition with an executive focused on internal academy governance. The new board structure combines Rosen's industry experience with specialized committee leadership across different media formats.
Rosen, who is also the director of commissioning at UKTV, described the promotion as a great privilege. She said she is delighted to work alongside the newly appointed committee chairs. Rosen expressed confidence that the new board will continue the impactful work established by previous leadership, citing the collective passion and insight of the group.
